Well today is the day that we’ve all been dreading looking forward to. Today is my oldest son’s high school graduation. In honor of this big event, I have finally finished editing his senior pictures. I know I’ve whined about this eminent event many times over the past year. I have said over and over how I can’t believe how fast time is going. This is a phrase that you hear often from parents of older children. I’m sure you parents of little ones think that we’re crazy complaining that time flies because when you’re in the thick of parenthood there are days that seem to draw on forever. But I assure you that when your kids are somewhere around the age of 10 time seems to magically speed up. Nobody knows how or why this happens but it does. When your children reach the age of 14 days move so quickly that you aren’t sure that you accomplished anything during that span of 24 hours (especially the hours that your kids were at school). I would do anything to slow down time. Not because I’m worried about my youth but because I would like to enjoy my children’s youth for a lot longer. I miss the days of hunkering down and watching a disney movie in our pj’s, snuggling together all night, game nights, dance-a-thons in the living room, little skits preformed by my little ones, baking cookies together, and playing in the hose in the backyard. The list of things I’ll miss go on and on and on. Don’t get me wrong, I love having teenagers. I love the talks, the movies (PG-13 and R’s now), the shopping, the laughs and so much more. They’re amazing young adults and I love everything about them. But this day has made me look back and remember fondly the things that were. I couldn’t be more proud of my son today. He graduates today and will move on to Concordia University in Wisconsin in the fall. He will play lacrosse and study business. He is getting to live his dream. What more could a mom ask for? Well… maybe just another day to sit and read books on the front porch so I could rub the back of his little hand. A mamma can dream can’t she?
